Golden Gate Heights Hillside

Third Nature Studio is currently designing a steep hillside landscape in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Heights, developed in concert with a home renovation. The project reimagines both front and rear yard conditions to create a cohesive outdoor environment that connects directly to the architecture while addressing challenging topography and sandy soils.

The design explores a dual character across the site: a calm, refined outdoor living area adjacent to the house for gathering and everyday use, and an upper garden organized around play. Circulation, walls, and planting are being carefully studied to maximize usable space, frame views toward Sutro Tower, and create a layered sense of privacy and openness throughout the hillside.
